Why identify Parentage?
Genomically identify sires and dams in order to make effective decisions about progeny, breed programs and bull selection.
Key uses for parentage:
Assign pedigree and reduce error associated with traditional mothering up methods
Target bull performance
Find more/less dominant sires
Identify sires potentially contributing to calf loss e.g. calving difficulties or genetic abnormalities
Identify sires of desirable progeny
Confirm the parentage of accelerated reproductive programs (i.e. embryo transfer and AI calves)
Increase the accuracy of estimated breeding values
